Flyfishing in Norsjö

NSFK was founded in September 1995

by that time it had only 10 members.
Today we are almost 1100 happy supporters.
The club has two lakes and two streams that are strictly for members only.
Please note that ANYONE can become a member for a very low annual charge.
In some of our lakes we have trout, grayling and char together with the original species pike and perch.
All these waters are “put and take”. We put in new fishes on a regular basis.
In addition there are also some streams in Malån "Mönnforsen" that offers nice fly-fishing. (trout and grayling). These stretches have “no kill”.
The streams keep quite big fish due to the “no kill” regulations.

These streams are included in a research project to determine the effects of “catch and release fishing" in small waters.
Without doubt, our efforts have already created a population of bigger sized fish.

The rural district of Norsjö can offer world class fishing on pike and perch apart from all the rivers that keep big trout and grayling.

The best period to fish for trout and grayling is July-August.
Pike and perch can be caught from mid June to late August.

HIGH QUALITY STRETCHES, WHY?
Our northern streams and natural trout and grayling populations have under a long period been negatively affected by human activities.

Examples are road constructions, power plants but also logging where streams have been cleared of rocks so that logs could be easily transported by the water, this destroyed habitats for spawning and feeding.

Another problem that is getting attention now is high outtake of fish that in many cases exceeds the biological production. This is a very common phenomena in our remaining streams which without exception leads to a low quality fishing.
This is recognized by an over-representation of small fish that in most cases never reaches fertile age.
On our latitude a grayling must be 35-40 cm to be fertile, 4-5 years old.

To increase the knowledge on how our streams shall be treated best these two rivers will be used in a long-term research done by SLU-Vattenbruk (Umeå University).

The sportfishing in these stretches will be “ecological sportfishing” where a minimal outtake and a maximum survival of released fish is a priority.

We ask you to respect these rules since the results are meant to help others that want to have a high quality sportfishing in harmony with nature.
